Holbrook

Holbrook is a village situated close to
the northern shore of the Stour estuary in Suffolk,
England. It is located on the Shotley peninsula in
Babergh district, around 5 miles south of Ipswich.
Lower Holbrook is a hamlet between Holbrook and
Harkstead.

The village has two pubs, The Swan and The
Compasses (although the latter is temporarily closed
and awaiting a buyer). It also has a Co-op store
incorporating the Post Office, a butcher’s shop and a
village hall. There is also a busy Doctors’ Surgery on
The Street. Holbrook has an on-call fire station.
Holbrook’s policing is provided by the Hadleigh Safer
Neighbourhood Team. The mobile library service, a
pizza maker and a fish & chip van all visit the village.

To the south of the village is the Royal Hospital School,
which moved to this site in 1933 after having been
situated at Greenwich Hospital since 1693.

The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside.
There are dedicated footpaths and a cycle path around
Alton Water and Holbrook Creek is a short walk from
the centre of the village.
